Salt Lake City – September 23, 2002 – Mrs. Fields Cookies today announced the world premiere of its’ “Winning is Sweet …So are the Days of our Lives” amateur chef contest winning cookie. On hand to help celebrate the October 5 debut of the new Almond White Chip cookie at San Diego’s Horton Square will be members of the “Days of our Lives” Horton family, as well as officials of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Mrs. Fields will donate 5 percent of sales from the winning cookie to The Society through the end of February.
The star-studded celebration of the cookie’s arrival will include cast members from NBC’s #1 rated daytime drama, “Days of our Lives,” Nadia Bjorlin, Patrika Darbo, Susan Seaforth Hayes, Kyle Lowder, Suzanne Rogers, Kevin Spirtas, Alison Sweeney and Arianne Zuker.
Also joining the festivities will be the creator of the Almond White Chip cookie, Margie Fisher of Hartsville, Tennessee. As the contest winner, she won a walk-on role on “Days of our Lives,” plus other prizes. She plays nurse C. Walker on an episode scheduled to air October 7, 2002.
When notified that her cookie recipe had won first
prize, Ms. Fisher surprised Mrs.
Fields
with the poignant news that she had first hand knowledge of lymphoma. “My father
died due to lymphoma, so I’m especially happy that proceeds from sales of my
cookie will help fund research that will help other people who have blood
cancers.”
Following the world premiere event of the Almond White Chip cookie, the celebrants will participate in The Society’s San Diego “Light the Night® Walk.” The walks are held during September and October in more than 224 cities nationwide to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
Through October, consumers buying three Almond White Chip cookies will receive one free. Additionally, SoapCity.com will offer a free “Days of our Lives” cast photograph and $5.00 off purchases from The SoapCity Store at www.soapcity.com throughout the month of October, while supplies last. SoapCity coupons will be distributed at participating Mrs. Fields stores nationwide.
