Los Angeles, CA, (October 15, 1997) — Colin Cowie, the man who has designed some of the world’s most talked about parties and weddings, is moving the largest tabletop manufacturer, Lenox, in a new and fashion-forward design direction. On the 23rd of October, Lenox will announce Cowie’s affiliation as their national spokesperson and new designer at an exclusive event to be held in their new showroom at 41 Madison Avenue in Manhattan. Cowie’s boldly-colored and innovative line of tabletop china and accessories, “Colin Cowie by Lenox,” will be unveiled that evening. “Colin Cowie by Lenox” will become available in retail stores nationwide in January 1998. Cowie will be making appearances at retail stores throughout the nation to speak about trends in entertaining and lifestyle and how Lenox customers can update the look of their china with the new collection.
For the last decade, Cowie has been setting trends in entertaining for many well-known clients including Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Lisa Kudrow, Don Henley, Jennifer Aniston, Charlie Sheen, Cheryl Tiegs, Anne Archer, Sela Ward, Bruce Springsteen, Julianne Phillips and Dyan Cannon. His second book, Weddings by Colin Cowie, will be released by Little Brown Publishers in January, 1998.
All “Colin Cowie by Lenox” collections have been designed to stand on their own and can also complement Lenox’ existing lines. “Couture” is the first of five collections Cowie will create for Lenox over the next two years. The line was designed with a mix and match approach that offers the consumer an opportunity to define their own personal sense of style. It features color driven-ensembles that include European sized plates, glassware, fine linens, serving pieces and accessories. “Couture” is based on a bold four-color theme: persimmon, olive, cocoa and vanilla, with accents in burnished gold. The collection will be sold as open stock or as a 5-piece place setting. Within each place setting, no two plates are the same.
“It’s incredibly exciting to create a whole new direction for the world’s largest manufacturer of china, silverware and crystal,” said Cowie from his offices in New York. “The collection is the epitome of cutting-edge elegance and was inspired by the years of entertaining I have done for both myself and my clients. I have always enjoyed bringing together many elements of different styles and periods to create a personal collected look.”
The “Couture” line, crafted of fine china consists of the following elements:
- An ivory baseplate (charger) accented with a light gold band on a colored border.
- A dinner plate bordered in a gold lattice motif on a solid-colored background of either persimmon, olive, cocoa or vanilla.
- The salad accent plates are bordered in solid bands of the four basic colors. Five strategically placed icons reside within the color border, which resemble a stylized pineapple, a 17th century symbol of friendship.
- The bread plate is a smaller stylistic version of the charger.
- The contemporarily-shaped coffee cup and saucer are designed in the four basic colors with icons on either sides. The cup handles are lightly gilded in gold.
- Woven in 100% linen, table cloths, place mats, napkins and cocktail napkins have been designed in persimmon, olive, cocoa and vanilla. The linens are finished in a classic hem stitch and are embroidered with the tone-on-tone “friendship” icon.
- Napkin rings, fashioned of braided silk toggles are available in the four basic colors.
- Colored, crystal water goblets accent the collection; the tall “V” shapes model a 17th century silhouette.
- And, finally, serving platters, along with covered vegetable bowls, serving trays, a coffee pot and creamer/sugar set are available.
